  1. I knew a woman who would do that exactly. So I guess sometimes you have to go below the lowest common denomoinator

  2. When I worked for American Greetings card company they destroyed perfectly good merchandise all the time in order to restock with new stuff. Some of the new stuff was exactly like the old stuff only with a higher price tag. Why couldn’t they just sell the old stuff for half off? It had to be costing them so much money this way!

  3. Unfortunately, it makes a perverse sort of sense. Some customers actually will damage store merchandise to get a discount, and the store is betting that they’ll get more from forcing these customers to buy the items at full price than they will lose by destroying the damage/unsold stock. It’s sick, but it’s not entirely illogical.

  4. It reminds me of the episode of All in the Family where Archie and Edith go grocery shopping. Edith informs him that dented cans are two cents cheaper, so he grabs a hammer and starts damaging them (and accidentally smashes a carton of eggs).
