Subordinates don’t get to boss their boss around but I don’t think they should have to put up with bullcrap, either. Not to say Marla is wrong here–being late by a few minutes once in awhile isn’t a federal crime but I once had a manager that came and went as she pleased, completely disregarding the schedule SHE wrote for herself. Subordinates shouldn’t have to be held hostage at work when their boss won’t come in as scheduled.
Josh would have been wise to observe Marla for awhile though before opening his big mouth, that’s for sure. No one likes a nitpicker.
I agree that subordinates shouldn’t be ridden over, but Marla’s day may not start when she steps foot into Grumbel’s – store managers may have reasons to be at corporate or at other stores. It’s not really any of his concern.
Based on Cooper’s attitude towards babies we’ve seen in the strip so far, I think Cooper has serious issues about this, probably because his father abandoned him and his mother.
Hello Andy. I just went back to the May 27th posting and the bet basically reads; if Cooper doesn’t break Josh before Marla returns, silverneurotic writes his comments backwards for a week. If Cooper does break Josh before Marla returns, I write backwards for a week. Marla has returned and Josh is still here. A good time to start writing backwards would have been Marla’s first day back. Josh may have had his head bitten off but he’s still getting a paycheque.
lol… poor Josh. The reason I say that is that Stuart was ALWAYS commenting on Marla being one minute late. Clearly he didn’t know that he wouldn’t have stuck his foot in.
The store/strip simply can;t have a smooth val/marla partnership running it. Where would the fun be in that ? besides Josh will actually be a good “buffer” for marla he can do all the corporate innanity that she can’t take.
I think he should only point out she is late if it directly impacts him in this case or if it is habitual problem, if josh misses his bus because he can;t leave waiting for marla, yea be upset but if she was coming into an overlapping shift, I’d give her some slack. RHIP.
Where did I see that look before…oh, yes from the horror movie JENNIFER’S BODY. (Not sure which was scarier, the movie, Megan Fox’s performance, or the fact I paid $5 to watch it…)
Go Marla! And yes, pointing out picky stuff like that to your new manager is a BAD idea!
Reply: “I’m your boss, Joshua. Also you’re fired.”
Subordinates should not boss their boss around. That’s an instant way to end up in deep water.
Also, wasn’t there a bet about Josh breaking by now? Someone lost it, right…?

Did we actually agree on a time frame?
Maybe a demotion for Josh and a promotion for Val? Josh will only get away with ticking her off a few times before she’s had enough.
Val didn’t want the promotion, Josh did, that’s why he got it.
Val didn’t want the promotion when Daddy was paying her rent. Her tune might change when the storyline revisits her financial woes.
This made me wince when I read this.
Yea, let’s promote the most self-centered, manipulating character in the entire strip. The true “villain” in this strip.
Great idea. I like Josh more than Val. At least he’s upfront with how he is and doesn’t hide his true nature.
Love the angry Marla!
Whole heartedly agree with hildi! Maybe Cooper’s anti-baby statements made her realize she now she doesn’t get picked on anymore… Who’s next?

The boy learns. Will wonders never cease?
Marla’s face in the 3rd panel… priceless.
Josh- Do NOT piss off the new mom. Bad things will happen.
Talk about biting one’s head off… literally! LOLOL!
I hope poor Marla didn’t get sick…
Whata way to get hairballs…
Does that mean Stuart’s never been late while Josh’s been around?

Epic FAIL from Josh here. Love Marla’s reaction, though.
