  1. Isn’t this where we all end up eventually though?
Even if you do get your ‘dream job,’ are living out your passion, and ‘are making a difference in the world,’ don’t we all just eventually hit a point where we can’t go further with it? Where we hit the same road blocks and end up, pretty much, just churning out the same stuff over and over. Don’t we just eventually say ‘well, I have great grandkids’ or some other sort of ‘not about us’ focus that we then place our hopes on after we’ve seen the limits of our own?
    An honest question.
I’ve always seen every job as eventually just a churning out of some product. No matter what, you seem to just do the same thing over and over at a certain point. No?

    • I think it depends upon a persons perspective. Some people are happy just enjoying life, or dealing with their problems, that is what life is. I think society is making people think that if they work retail they have failed!! Same as if you don’t have a degree, you aren’t smart. To be honest, there are days that I love retail, but after 15 years, there are days I feel defeated and just like Marla. We are what we want to be. Almost everyone complains about their jobs, retails just seems to be any easy target for people to put down.

    • I think everyone feels this way from time to time. Even those in careers where they help others like teachers and doctors or nurses, they do a lot of good in the world but after a while they probably feel the same way.

  2. It’s retail. NOTHING you do MATTERS. Period. You aren’t helping society. You aren’t saving lives. You aren’t making the world better in anyway.

    So…no kidding, Marla.

    • That’s where I’m at, too, which is why I gave my notice yesterday. Only two more weeks as a slave to corporate greed, and then I’m off to do some good in the world.

          • That is an honorable and admirable pursuit, Gibbs. I sincerely hope it brings you inner joy to be doing something that benefits others!
