Team Cul De Sac Auction

Team Cul de Sac was created to honor Richard Thompson, creator of the award-winning comic strip, Cul de Sac, after his recent Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. Cartoonists, artists, illustrators, and animators have donated original artwork for an auction, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support Parkinson’s research. The auction ends June 10 at 10:00 p.m. The artwork is also collected in a book, Team Cul de Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson’s (Andrews McMeel Publishing), to be published June 5, 2012. A portion of the proceeds from the book will also be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

This is a great cause, so please consider supporting the MJF Foundation’s effort to aid Parkinson’s research by either bidding on some original art, or purchasing the book collection of the donated artwork.  I had the opportunity to see an advance copy of the book at the NCS Reuben Awards weekend in Las Vegas last weekend, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.  Chris Sparks did an amazing job putting it together.

My humble offering to the auction (a collage of Petey and Alice made from comic page newsprint) is pictured above, but with contributions by artists like Bill WattersonSergio Aragones, and Lynn Johnson this is also a rare opportunity to purchase the artwork of some true cartooning legends.

Kickstarter: Kenosha Festival of Cartooning

My good friend Anne Hambrock has started a Kickstarter project to help fund the second annual Kenosha Festival of Cartooning!  There are lots of cool giveaways for pledgers, so head on over and help back the project!

The Kenosha Festival of Cartooning is a 3 day festival of live presentations,  workshops, a gallery show, panel discussions and community outreach by some of the nation’s top cartoonists. The funds raised will be for the appearance fees, travel and lodging expenses of the artists and will allow the Festival events to be completely free to the public. The funds raised will also pay for publicity materials for the festival and to defray shipping costs for some of the original artwork in the festival exhibit.

Guest speakers are: Stephan Pastis of Pearls Before Swine,Greg Cravens of The BucketsMichael Jantze from The Norm and Jantze Animation Studios, Norm Feuti of Retail and Gil , Dave Coverly of Speed Bump and Parade Magazine, and panel moderator Tom Racine.
